I’m inviting you to taste what I’ve been making in my kitchen this winter, that’s been keeping me warmed up from the inside out, with plenty of energy as I work during these snowy winter days.
My Hot Maca Matcha Latte made with coconut butter is what I consider a treat, giving me energy and healthy fats for brain function and hormone balance.
It has a vibrant green color and a creamy texture.
This latte is a great support for natural hormone balance with the added maca.
Maca is a root vegetable from Peru, that has been crushed into a powder that is found in the supplement section at the local health food store. It has nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin B6, iron, copper, and is full of fiber. It can naturally boost stamina, and can assist in hormone regulation by supporting the the communication in the brain (pituitary gland- hypothalamus) for the right release of hormones each month.
It is especially helpful for women going through moonpause or peri-moonpause time, if there is vaginal dryness due to low estrogen levels. Maca can assist in libido support, and is actually called “Nature’s Viagra”- careful who you give it to.
It’s best to take in the gelatinized form, which has been cooked first and then crushed into a powder- as the raw form can sometimes cause digestive issues. Plus, consuming it cooked can be easier for those who have thyroid issues, as maca is part of the cruciferous vegetable family.
For women who are slow estrogen-metabolizers, maca may create adverse effects such as breast pain and menstrual cramping- so you may want to reduce or even avoid maca if you notice these symptoms worsen with maca consumption.
Coffee can be quite taxing for the female endocrine system.
Coffee can spike cortisol, a stress hormone that creates mental alertness, which is a big reason why it’s a popular drink. However, excess levels of stress can affect the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA), that sends a feedback loop response from the brain to other organs, stimulating the adrenals to release more cortisol, causing a “fight or flight” response that can put women into survival mode.
We’re not here to survive but THRIVE.
Matcha is less taxing on the stress response, as well as it’s full of antioxidants. Plus, the healthy fats from the coconut butter and coconut milk in this recipe can help slow down the stress response through slower absorption, so you don’t get a “crash” in energy later.
I believe eating should be PLEASURABLE, because stress, restriction, and deprivation can all lead to food cravings and emotional eating.
That’s why I love creating delicious elixir recipes for you, as they have been a staple in my life, coming from an emotional eating background. My mission is to help you feel nourished and naturally energized from your kitchen creations!
